Podcast Episode 13: Religion vs Jesus = False Dichotomy

At really long last, here is another podcast episode.

Download it here.

Yana got me Adobe Audition for Mac for Christmas, so I’m putting it to good use.  The sound may be a bit different because I was doing completely new settings on my post-production plug-in.  I think my Ozone 3 is due for an upgrade, don’t you?

Anyway, in the span of about 18 minutes, I make a valiant attempt to shed some light on two common misunderstandings of our day.  This was prompted by the YouTube video that went viral entitled “Why I Hate Religion but Love Jesus.”  The first part is about the video and some things that are wrong with it.  I end it with what’s right from the video.

Then, I tackle the irresponsible statement often heard, in some form or another, that obeying the law doesn’t matter as long as we love.  This is one of those topics that inspired me to name the blog and podcast “It Really Does Matter.”  The reason is that, as you may have guessed, it really does matter.

Podcast Episode 12: Introducing Simon

If you’ve seen my Twitter feed, you know he was actually born a just over six weeks ago.  So, this is a bit late.  In fact, it’s been busy.  I recorded this when he was 15 days old, and I’m just now posting it.

Get the episode here.

I’ll post a blog for an update on him.

Podcast Episode 11: The Cloud and The New Mass Translation

At long last, I got Episode 11 of the podcast published.

Download it here.

I think my last blog post will tell you what took me so long.  In fact, I wonder how the sound will work for others because I migrated computers after recording but before finishing the post production.

This will almost certainly be the last episode before my son is born. Also, it’s my longest and probably my most technical episode.  These were both topics I felt I needed to talk about even though they are a strange combination.

The Cloud really can be a great thing for computing, but it has its drawbacks.  There are some definite advantages and disadvantages I wanted to cover.  The new Mass translation is something I first blogged about a few years ago.  This time I just weighed in with a concise explanation of why we need it.  Unlike others, I think we’ve been waiting too long for it.

Podcast Episode #10: Heavy Handed, Yeah, Right

I’ve made it to the tenth episode of the podcast.

You can download it here.

Since I haven’t covered anything fun for a little while, I thought I’d talk about . . . well . . . another sort of conversion I experienced in 2006.  Then, I get serious.  I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty tired of hearing about how “oppressive” or “heavy-handed” the Church is when someone who spreads false teaching is disciplined.  There are three recent well-known cases that I dive into and show how these adjectives are not warranted.  One of them is the removal of Bishop William Morris from his diocese in Australia.  His case had actually drawn on for year.

Read about it here.

The story includes a video of how people are “shocked” and “angered.”  Would that people be so “shocked” and “angered” because false teaching is being presented in the name of the Church!

Podcast Episode #9: Blessed John Paul II

I just posted my latest podcast episode.

Download it here.

This podcast is primarily a tribute to now Blessed John Paul II and what his work meant for me.  The more I think about it, the more things I think about that I could have said.  Oh well, this isn’t meant to be comprehensive, and my episodes are brief.

Podcast Episode #8: Almsgiving

My latest podcast, and the last in my Lenten series, is now posted.

Get it here.

This one is pretty brief.  I didn’t have nearly as much to say on almsgiving.  I did throw in some thoughts on how easy it would have been for Jesus to come down from the cross at the beginning.

Enjoy!

Podcast Episode #7: Thoughts on Prayer

My seventh podcast episode, and my second episode about Lent, is now posted.

Get it here.

In this episode, I cram a lot of various thoughts on prayer together.  I’m hoping to get in at least one, hopefully two, more episodes before Lent is over.

Podcast Episode #6: Lent and Giving Up the iPad 2

The newest episode of the podcast is available:

Get it here.

Sure, the iPad is a great device, but it’s Lent.  Besides, we haven’t had our iPads a year yet.  I’ve only had mine since Christmas.  It has some great features, and I’d recommend it to anyone who doesn’t already have an iPad.  However, I start this podcast talking about why I don’t want one.  Of course, in a couple of years, I’m sure I’ll want to upgrade.

Along those same lines, I begin talking about misunderstandings around giving up something for Lent.  There is an article on my web page that I reference in case you’d like to read it.

Podcast Episode #5: Spiritual vs Natural Influence

Episode 5 is now posted.

Download it here.

I got an new iPad for Christmas thanks to my wife and parents.  I have been having a lot of fun with it, and I thought I’d weigh in on the Android vs. iPhone (and also the Microsoft vs. Apple) debate.  I’m a switcher to Macintosh myself and have been since 2006.

I’ve heard a lot about The Rite.  I have not seen it and don’t know if I will, but it did give me inspiration for my little “side note” about demonic influence.

Podcast Episode #4: The Pope’s Remarks

The next episode of the podcast is available.  Download it here.

After goofing off a bit, I go into the remarks of the Holy Father on condom use.  By the way, the book, Light of the World, is an excellent book.  I’ve been reading it off and on for the past few weeks.  We often see the Holy Father in the news, but we don’t get to hear his own perspective on the events in a format like this.

See the book at Ignatius Press.

I really this that this has been an especially bad year for irresponsible media reporting on the Church and the Holy Father.  It seems that they have been especially bad about distorting the words of Pope Benedict, and this isn’t the first time they’ve done it.  I’ve given a couple of other examples of how his words have been misused.
